This training module is designed to provide participants with essential knowledge and skills on how to guide their behaviour to respect ethics cornerstones and the diversity of each person with substance use disorder (SUD) they get in contact with. It will include information about ethics, stigma, legal framework, confidentiality, support system and ways to make referrals in approaching and dealing with illicit drug addiction. This will improve participants’ skills to address and solve sensitive problems which may appear in the treatment and recovery process.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge
Know the concept of ethics and specific ethics regarding addictions;
Know the ethical cornerstones within the intervention process when working with persons suffering from substance use disorders;
Know relevant aspects related to diversity in terms of ethics in addictions;
Know the concept of stigma and why it can occur.
Skills
Conducting the intervention considering the ethical cornerstones when facing ethical dilemmas
To interact with substance users taking into account all aspects of diversity: cultural diversity, age diversity, gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, socio-economic condition;
To understand the concepts of stigma take it into account in the healthcare professional when addressing SUD
Competences
To successfully apply the ethical cornerstones by the healthcare professional;
To effectively address ethical issues/dilemmas that may arise during the treatment of substance users;
Adapt their conduct according to the diversity of each individual and to the specifics of each substance user they come into contact within their professional activities.
